Leaf: I keep you clean and clear
Wind: You come in many colors and I don’t

Leaf: I am now out of the tree!

Hot: Miami heat loves me. They put heat in their name and sweat
Cold: Santa Claus loves me
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer loves me too

Hot: Heaters are my followers
Cold: AC and fans are my followers

Hot: I’m so hot that the AC will make me warmer

Hot: I can just sizzle you and you’ll get hot
Cold: In your ice dream hot and cold cat fight

Hot: I’m tired of this nonsense
Cold: Me too

Warm: BFF like forever.

Angels and Demons

Demon: I bring up the fire.
Angel: I can put it down.

Demon: I am awesome at making mischief.
Angel: That is just plain rude.

Demon: Da, da, da, da. I’m not listening.
Angel: Pay attention!
Demon: Why should I?

Angel: We shall fight.
Demon: I’m shocked!

Angel: Singing powers....
Demon: Ah, my ears, it burns.
Angel: Perfect!
Demon: I feel so cuddly inside.
(BOOM!)

Night: You can go trick or treat at night.

Day: Let’s be friends.
Night: We could have sleepovers.

Today's poems are simile self portrait poems written by poet-athletes in the SCORES program at Dunlap Elementary during our 2011 Fall Season.

Simile Self Portrait Poem
by Errol S.

My hair is dark as the moon.
My eyes are brown as chocolate ice cream.
My arm is strong as a rhino.
My legs are wiggly as a frog.
My chin is hard as a rock.
My cheeks are soft as a pillow.
My neck is round as a circle.
My feet are smooth like a turtle shell.
My ears are shaped like a square.
My forehead is flat.
My mouth is hot as a fire.
My chest is hard as a boulder.
My hands are soft as a baby’s chin.
My stomach is hard as a tiny rock.
My back is flat as the wall.

Simile Self Portrait
by Juvanni P.

My hair is as spiky as a porcupine.
My head is as big as the moon.
My ears are as big as an elephant’s ears.
My nose is as long as a witch.
My mouth is as big as a whale.

Simile Self Portrait
by Tamar M.

My hair is as black as a hole.
My head is as big as a watermelon.
My neck is as short as an elf.
My chest is hard as a rock.
My stomach is as thin as a toothpick.

Simile Self Portrait
by Abdiriza A.

My hair is like big as a bush.
My eyes are like big as a ball.
My nose is like sharp as a knife.
My cheek is as soft as a marshmallow.

I Remember Poem
by Eva Y.

I remember my first steps
it was cold and it felt like
I was walking on snow.
I remember the time I
was holding my sister and never letting
anyone take her away.
I remember the first time I
played with a soccer ball
me and the ball were like a pair.
I remember the first time
I drank root beer
it was like it was my destiny.
I remember the first time
I rode a bike scared and
waiting for my mom to get me off
I remember my dog so protective
loved me and did not want to let go.

My Mighty Hands
by Andrew R.

I love my mighty hands.
They help me write.
They help me hold things like pencils.
If I didn’t have my mighty hands,
it would be sad.

What Boys Smell Like
by Chaya H.

Boys smell like raw fish
dipped in full toilet.
Boys smell like dead rotten rodent
stuck in the middle of the street.
Boys smell like an elephant butt in a bucket of mud.
Boys also smell like sweaty feet, EWE!
Boys probably taste like a bucket full of dirt.

My Little Brother
by Erik G.

My little brother is whining- wah-wah-wah!
He wants to go to the bathroom- Boom!
My little brother stinks like a skunk- Pugh!
I leave to go to school -Phew!
I’m safe. Good bye.

Who’s Afraid of the Dark?
by, Rabel, Joshua, Siua, Elone, Erik, Jose, and Gabriel

Click, click go the high heels
Mother is coming
Quick! Turn off the video games - r-r-r-oooom
Turn on the popcorn popper - pop, pop, pop
I hear thunder - Boom!
There goes the power - his-s-s-s!
Who’s afraid of the dark? Ahhhh!
Not me.

Maple Team Cheer

Like the Sounders we are strong
Like good friends we get along
We will cheer for all the teams
We know what respect means
Win or lose we will have fun
We play hard til the game is done
SCORES is commitment and we play fair
And write about our torn underwear.

Today's video is a message of support from Seattle Sounders' Lamar Neagle:

Today’s poems are a selection from our first full Winter Season of Junior SCORES (K-2nd graders) at Dunlap Elementary:

Thunderbirds Rock!
We rock around the clock.
When we play soccer,
We play as a team.
It’s not that hard for us,
We do it as a team!
Dunlap Thunderbirds SCORES Rock!
-Thunderbirds SCORES team

I’m powerful when I play soccer.
I protect the ball when someone tries to take it
My heart pumps because I am running hard
The players on my team block the goal
Because we hustle and play good.
-Khalia

Soccer is my sport,
I play everywhere,
Even on the court.
I might be short,
But I still can play
My favorite sport.
-Shuayb

Teams and families are alike,
They help each other by getting along,
Like a choir singing a song,
They try to do nothing wrong.
-Jaliya

Friendship
Don’t just think about yourself,
Think about everyone else.
That’s called friendship.
Be very nice,
Make a lot of friends,
The fun never ends.
-Jaliya

There is a star
I am going to throw a candy bar at the star.
I am still hungry.
What the…?
What’s happening to the…
AHHHHH!
The star is eating my candy bar!
I am going to throw a candy bar.
-Brandyn

Flowers, flowers, flowers
Do you like flowers?
I love them, too!
Which one do you like?
Please tell me your favorite
And then I’ll tell you mine.
Do you like roses?
I love them, too!
Do you see flowers?
I see them, too!
Should we pick them?
I think that, too!
We should pick blossoms.
Yess we should!
Let’s go get them right now, or soon!
-Inthira

When I am on the soccer field,
I respect other players
And they respect me.
Whether we win or lose,
We have a blast.
We run to the goal to shoot and score.
When we score,
We let out a roar!
-Allen
