We started the FALL SEASON off with
great weather and fun at Starfire!

 GAME DAYS

Game Days were a blast, rain or shine, Poet-Athletes played with heart, pick each other up when they slipped in the mud and cheered their teammates on!

 EVENTS

Roger Levesque, local authors and poets came together for our Barnes and Noble Book Fair Event! Through our Book Fairs we were able to raise enough money in giftcards to buy a book for each student in SCORES this Fall! We gave the books away at our 12th Annual Poetry Slam!

Town Hall Seattle was filled with inspiring poetry from Champion Slam Poet Nikkita Oliver and 137 America SCORES Seattle Poet-Athletes! Roger Levesque was a fantastic host and we had wonderful guest judges including Lamar Neagle of the Seattle Sounders!

SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC

The number one team in the MLS celebrated their 40th anniversary on October 10th. They also recognized their Community Partners and gave each a generous donation! We are so grateful for the tremendous support of the Sounders FC!

Can't Believe Summer has already P.A.S.S.ED - A Highlight of SCORES Summer Camp!

This summer was our first ever SCORES Summer Camp! A huge thank you to all our personal supporters, Maple Elementary, United Way of King County, School's Out Washington, Page Ahead, and the Seattle Sounders FC for making it possible!

A big part of the SCORES program is goal setting and group agreements. We had camp-wide goals of support, positivity, perseverance, respect, and being yourself!

Each team of 15 also made their own goals and values which they wrote on a golden soccer ball. Everyone signed the ball and as a team they worked to achieve those goals.

We worked on Rhyming Couplets, Color Poems, I Am poetry, Alliteration, Rhyme Schemes, Simile & Metaphor, Acrostics about Reading/Books,
Concrete Poems, Haikus, and Free Verse Poems!

Below are some Color Poems

Self Expression is at the root of what we do. We wrote "I Am" poems, had two visiting artists/poets who took us through workshops on identity. Our poet-athletes painted self portraits and took some time to explore photography, setting up their own photographic portraits as well.

They were amazing, here's a glimpse:

We played soccer for 90 minutes in the afternoon, building our skills, our sense of teamwork and just had some fun!

Each week we had Friday scrimmages and on the final Friday we had a pizza party and fun scrimmages: Kids vs. Coaches and Girls vs. Boys

And Seattle gave us a beautiful, sunny summer to enjoy!

Thanks to kids, coaches, and supporters for such an incredible
Poetic Athletic SCORES Summer!

And remember: JUST BE YOUR SELFIE! ;)

“There is no better way of life in the world than that of the Australian.
I firmly believe this. ” ― John O'Grady

Live like an Australian for a night! And support America SCORES Seattle!

“I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror –
The wide brown land for me!”

Spring Season Highlight-- Game Day 2

When I say America, you say SCORES!
America!
SCORES!

Here are some more great performances from our Spring Season Game Days. Last week Highland Park hosted Dunlap and Roxhill hosted Maple. Here are the Highland Park and Dunalp Teams sharing their cheers before the game:

Dunlap and Highland Park showed great spirit and sportsmanship during their game on Friday!

Coach Trevor honors examples of Teamwork, Commitment, and Leadership at the weekly Gold Card Ceremony! Team ritual creates strong culture!

A strong culture that enables leaders like, Poet-Athlete Marquise,
to take a moment to remind us what a SCORES Game is all about!
