by: Vicki L. 4th grade

Today my name is sparkle
I feel so sparkly in the sky
I pretend that I am a bright star.

Yesterday my name was glimmer
I heard that I gleam on the water
I found out my mom makes me special every day.

Tomorrow my name will be shine.
I will forget the past.
I will remember to shine like the sun every day.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween to all from everyone here at SCORES. As a special treat we present to you six of the scariest Halloween poems by the SCORES poet-athletes!

Halloween
Carmina C., 5th grade
Dunlap Elementary School

Knife, Blood, and Creepy Critters
The house is haunted
The dead will rise
Scary Stories come true
Moving shadows, Werewolves howling
Women calling for help

Halloween Night of Fright
My V., 5th grade
Dunlap Elementary School

Blood dripping
Invisible tip-taping
The scream of fright
The smell of horrors
Creature walking some are crawling
Some are real and some are not
Spiders splattering on the floor
And once again the scream of
fright.
R.I.P. people are waking up
evil spirit swirling with excite
Tonight is where ghost stories are
retold in the dark when the dogs
bark because of the ghost.
And when the scary Jack o’lanterns
smile you feel like running away
for a mile. Evil laughter spreads the
room. Boo! Muahahaha! And everything
stays quiet for a while, so that is
The Halloween night of fright.

Halloween Poem
Carmela C., 5th grade
Dunlap Elementary School

Halloween is where horrors
come alive. Where ghost stories
come in the dark. Orange and
black everywhere. Everyone in the
cemetery, spirits come out from
their grave. Creepy critters watch
out. Boo all the time. sometimes oohs and
ahhs. Witches and goblins from
where Halloween started.
Candy everywhere, sweet tooth
Here. Monsters under our bed.
Muah ah ah watch out maybe you
will be a spirit soooon!

Halloween
Steven C., 5th grade
Maple Elementary School

Zombies, Zombies, Zombies
We are calling you tonight
It is the night where you feast on our brains
so thick and moist
I can't wait for that delectable brain of fright
Mummies you come out tonight
Walking out of your tomb of fright
You walk at night and prepare us for a new life

Halloween
Hussein H., 4th grade
Maple Elementary School

Jack o' lanterns are on the front porch
Kids trick or treating everywhere
Zombies are chasing after them
Costumes and candy left behind as mummies are roaring out loud
The kids are running into a big house and watch
ghosts, mummies and zombies all come to LIFE!
The kids get scared and the monsters disappear
And all are sound asleep tonight

Halloween
Ramon G., 5th grade
Maple Elementary School

A ghost will be your host and will make you some toast
He will roast you a marshmallow and will not forget
the child who will not stay for awhile
He will play with a tile because he has a very nice style
Boo, it's Halloween

Friday Poem of the Week!

Today's Friday Poem of the Week is titled "What is Love?" by the Bailey Gatzert Elementary Girls Team! Way to go Gatzert!

What is Love?
by: Bailey Gatzert Elementary Girls

Love smells like a warm strawberry pie
Love tastes like sweet milk chocolate
Love feels like my mother’s good night kiss
Love is like a seed
You can’t force it to grow

I wonder, What is Love?
I ask, What is Love?

Love looks like the warm sun shining on me
Love tastes like zingy tomatoes
Love sounds like flower petals falling
Love looks like teammates working together

I wonder, What is Love?
I ask, What is Love?

Love feels like a soft furry blanket
Love looks like red hearts
Love seems like a brand new day
Love smells like red roses
Love tastes like fresh cherries falling from my tree

I wonder, What is Love?
I ask, What is Love?

Friday Poem of the Week!

Today's Friday Poem of the week is titled "Love It, Share It, Hear It" by the Dunlap Elementary Girls team. Awesome poem girls!

"Love It, Share It, Hear It"

by: Dunlap Elementary Girls

Ruth, Mynisha, Fahima, and Diana
We’ll be here
To do the job
And play the game
If we’re gone
It won’t be a threat
We’ll come back the next day
And do the bet
It will be fun
As long as we’re here
To play the game
And do the cheer
Commitment’s the word
That we like to hear
When we play the game
It’s fun when we’re all here

SCORES we love it
SCORES we share it
Go SCORES, let’s hear it!

Jala, Hanni, So’onafai, Rohey
We will lead our team to victory
And we will lead our team to glory
That’s just part of our amazing story

SCORES we love it
SCORES we share it
Go SCORES, let’s hear it!

Even if we didn’t get to play
I would only have nice things to say
Without opponents it wouldn’t be the same
If we win we say “good game”
Sierra, Ebany, Sharlayna, and Yen
Girls Scores Team 2010
Winning doesn’t matter
When we all have fun together
Sportsmanship is what we wrote about
When our team scores a goal
We all SHOUT

SCORES we love it
SCORES we share it
Go SCORES, let’s hear it!

We kick the ball
Leslie Kay, Malaya
We score a goal
Amanda and Serena
We scream and shout
That’s what SCORES is all about
We like to play
And we always have an awesome day

Friday Poem of the Week!

Today's Friday Poem of the Week is titled "Everything in My Mind" by Shuun M. of Highland Park Elementary! Great job Shuun!

Everything In My Mind
by: Shuun M. of Highland Park Elementary

I have a feeling in me.
That loves everything except some stuff.
That cannot hide many feelings.
That is if I am strong.
That is what I have.

I have a brain in me.
That wants money.
That needs video games in it.
That has learning in it.

I have a secret game in me.
That has mazes in it.
And the mazes take me to new adventures.
And its like each dead end is a door for new opportunities.

Friday Poem of the Week!

Today's Friday Poem of the Week is titled "Gardening" by Linda P. of Bailey Gatzert Elementary. Happy 4th of July weekend!

Gardening
By Linda P. of Bailey Gatzert Elementary

We are gardeners,
Planting and pulling
And cutting and pruning
We see our plants growing in the sunlight
And Mother Nature hugging us in her arms.
We touch beautiful flowers and soil so soft.
We smell the fragrance of lavender and fresh air.
We hear the wind whistling in our ears
And all the grunting and groaning and moaning of effort
As we plant our garden.
We taste our hard work
And all the things that we planted together.

The neighbors will be chilling like in Tahiti
Stop taggin’
So the whole world won’t be saggin’

In front of me I can see
Purple crystals.
I flip it over then I see
an ugly side.
It is yellowish brown and black.
Two different sides.
Two different lives.
One ugly.
One beautiful.
The Purple side looks like knives.
Knives that had just been sharpened.
What is your favorite side?

FRIDAY POEM OF THE WEEK!

Today's Friday Poem of the Week is titled "Black" by Jessica of Bailey Gatzert Elementary! Way to go Jessica!

Black
By: Jessica Age: 10
Bailey Gatzert Elementary

Black sounds like the scream of a surprised raccoon
Black is the color of eyes of an evil spirit that cannot rest in peace
Black is like a mysterious color that runs around non-stop
Black in my own eyes staring in the mirror looking back
Black leaves with reddish and greenish
The black sky with no stars looking back at me.

FRIDAY POEM OF THE WEEK- EARTH DAY!

Not only is today the best day of the week, but it is also EARTH DAY! Everyone should go outside, enjoy the weather, and do something "green"- like plant a tree, start a garden, or SUPPORT THE SOUNDERS!!

Here are a few special earth-related poems for this awesome day!

Sunset

by: Phung L. of Highland Park Elementary

Darkness descending over the evening sun
Fleeing birds wanting to rest
Gazing at its beauty
Colorless clouds above

Rain
by Lucy W. of Highland Park Elementary

Rain hit my window
So loud I can’t concentrate
I hate getting wet.

Snowflakes

by Jaida M. of Highland Park Elementary

Snowflakes are falling.
They are like white birds flying.
Snowflakes are so soft.

Friday Poem of the Week!

Today's Friday Poem of the Week is titled "Hope & Hopeless" by Samaya of Bailey Gatzert Elementary. Way to go Samaya!

Hope & Hopeless
by: Samaya of Bailey Gatzert Elementary

I am the earth
It is a really sad job
Everyday people die on me
I feel their teardrops
I am the bright blue sky
I look down and see eyes
I am classroom full of children ready to learn
I am a girl sad and hopeless
Hoping that someday someone will fulfill my wishes and dreams
Hoping that one-day I will go to a perfect world
But I know in my heart there is no perfect world
Where you could get whatever you want
It’s just a dream
I could dream all I want but I know it won’t come true
Deep down I know I should be happy with all I have
But I want more
When I think more I end up with nothing…

My Big Words

By Martino T. of Highland Park Elementary

My big words are BIG!
They are powerful.

My words are strong.
Strong like God.
Stronger than mankind!

Friday Poem of the Week

Hey hey it's Friday again! That means it's time for the Friday Poem of the Week. Today's beautiful poem is it titled "When I Die!" by Vanessa B. of Maple Elementary. Great poem Vanessa!

When I Die!
By: Vanessa B. of Maple Elementary

When I die my dry black hair will not fly like a flock in the wind.
When I die my eyes won’t see the ones I love.
When I die my tongue won’t taste the strawberries’ flesh, juice or seed.
When I die I won’t hear my parakeets Pepe or Jenni in the morning.
When I die my feet will take me to both sides of the Rio Grande.

Have a great weekend and GO SOUNDERS!
