Friday Poem of the Week: Veterans Day

Veterans
By Kaycee C., 3rd Grade, Maple Elementary School

Veterans are big and strong
They will march all along

Veterans fight for our safeness
They fight for their straightness

They fight from their heart
For us to have a good start

We’ll follow their lead
For us to succeed

Veterans War Poem
By Tetiana M., 5th Grade, Maple Elementary School

Bullets fly across the battle field,
as mines explode under the feet of unsuspecting men.
Hand grenades get tossed into the air.
Dirt, rocks and gun powder rise up.
Commands are flowing through in sound waves
Ears go deaf as shocking sounds appear close.
Beads of sweat run down their faces.
Vision blurs as little bits of debris sting their eyes.
Screams burst into the air as one by one, each man falls.
The last enemy dies, victory shouts into the open sky
We have prevailed.

SCORES Spring 2012 Dunlap Maple 2012_04-13 007

Dunlap Girls SCORES
(Who We Are Cheer)
Spring 2012

We are Dunlap Girls SCORES
We play soccer galore.

We’re like light,
We shine bright,
We are noticeable and always in sight.

We have a lot of brains and when we play soccer
We drive you insane.

SCORES, SCORES, SCORES
That’s all you hear
The crowd can’t help but cheer!

The bird.
By Tetiana M., 4th Grade

A bird lands on my finger.
It whistles a happy tune.
When its song is over,
I realize I am happy too!

Friday Poem of the Week!

Today's Friday Poem of the Week is titled "This is Me" by Francesca H. 3rd grader at Highland Park Elementary. Great job Francesca!

This is Me
by: Francesca H, 3rd grade
Highland Park Elementary

I am a friend that you want to meet.

I don’t cheat and I sit in my seat

No one can make me a bad friend
Know our friendship will never end

I am a team player
strong and free
I will be the best I can be
as sweet as candy
as friendly as a flower
and I have power!

Friday Poem of the Week!

Today's Friday Poem of the Week is titled "Music Inside of Me" by Martino T. of Highland Park Elementary. Way to go Martino!
Music Inside of Me
by: Martino T. 5th grade
Highland Park Elementary

Inside of me, I hear music.

Like the sound of a video game,
when you win,

My heartbeat sounds like
a drum beating every two seconds.

In my stomach, a whole
orchestra is playing.

There is a dance club in my brain.
Where it always plays Hip-Hop.
But sometimes it gets too loud,
so sometimes I hear music from the clouds.

The America SCORES National Poetry Slam! brings 30 elementary school poets from around the country together for a weekend in the Big Apple where they participate in teambuilding activities, poetry workshops, squeeze in some sightseeing, as well as rehearsals for the main event. Happy Valentine's Day!

In honor of Valentine's Day here is a beautiful poem titled "What is Love?" by the Bailey Gatzert Girls team! What is Love?
by: Bailey Gatzert Girls Team

Love smells like a warm strawberry pie
Love tastes like sweet milk chocolate
Love feels like my mother’s good night kiss
Love is like a seed
You can’t force it to grow

I wonder, What is Love?
I ask, What is Love?

Love looks like the warm sun shining on me
Love tastes like zingy tomatoes
Love sounds like flower petals falling
Love looks like teammates working together

I wonder, What is Love?
I ask, What is Love?

Love feels like a soft furry blanket
Love looks like red hearts
Love seems like a brand new day
Love smells like red roses
Love tastes like fresh cherries falling from my tree

I wonder, What is Love?
I ask, What is Love?

Friday Poem of the Week!

Today's Friday Poem of the Week is titled "Lock Up Your Meanness" by My V. of Dunlap Elementary. Great poem My!

Lock Up Your Meanness
by: My V. of Maple Elementary

When you lock up your meanness
The sun rolls high through the wide sapphire sky
and the cloud makes a smile

When you lock up your meanness
Your dreams can come true
Like you wanna be the main event and full attention
like no person was before!

When you lock up your meanness
You set free a happy and joyful
Emotion in your heart

When you lock up your meanness
Your friends will always be there for you
and it feels like you’re in a heavenly spot light

When you lock up your meanness
It feels great like a garden had burst into life
with happiness and joy

That’s what happens
when you lock up your meanness
And throw it away

Friday Poem of the Week!

Happy Friday! Todays Friday Poem of the Week is titled "Gatzert Gardeners" by Jasmine N. of Bailey Gatzert Elementary! Great poem Jasmine!

Gatzert Gardeners

by: Jasmine N.

Bailey Gatzert Elementary

We are gardeners
We dig, weed and plant
We get sweaty, thirsty and hungry
Planting seeds was like digging into the earth, way deep down
The soil was like mooshy ice-cream
In the ground I saw bugs, weeds and dead plants
I think the lavender will be like light purple and smell really fresh
Planting a garden felt like making our community a better place for people to enjoy
It will be greener!

Friday Poem of the Week!

Today My Name Is
by: Vicki L. 4th grade

Highland Park Elementary School

Today my name is sparkle
I feel so sparkly in the sky
I pretend that I am a bright star.

Yesterday my name was glimmer
I heard that I gleam on the water
I found out my mom makes me special every day.

Tomorrow my name will be shine.
I will forget the past.
I will remember to shine like the sun every day.
